Hi Mike, yep I'm a huge fan of the Carters, I saw them live with the Johnny Cash show in Australia in the very early 1970s, Mother Maybelle and the girls were on the tour and did a set of their greatest songs. Totally floored me, they were so good. Isn't that June seated in the front playing that auto-harp?
After a second look i think you are right about June on the auto-harp, she was very young there and i always think of how she looked when married to Johnny, you are so lucky to have seen them in person and Johnny was a big fan before he married June. Mike.
Mike, I love looking at Maybelle's right had as she plays this, she was a remarkably good guitar player, I read that she had a perfect ear, she could hear a piece of music played and totally understand what was happening and play it right back at you. I think seeing Maybelle Carter perform live was probably the musical highlight of my life.
In heaven (I've heard), we will listen to any type of music that we enjoy ;-)
