 The Daily Chat

A chatbox where we can post comments and have discussions on artists & songs. However, if you just want to say thank you for a particular post then please continue using the usual comment box located below each post.

Commencing today is a new series titled: "Assorted Recordings - Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel". Despite being similarly named to previous sets posted in the past, this is a brand new series that has never been posted. There are 99 volumes in this series, which continues the format of the previous blues/R&B/soul/gospel compilations.

Volume 1 in this new series gives you 20 great blues/R&B tracks from 1940-2002 by Ray Sharpe, Little Sonny, Howard Tate, Johnny Littlejohn, Mabel Franklin, T-Bone Walker and a few other mighty fine performers.

Also starting today are new batches of the jazz, hillbilly/country, rockabilly/early R&R, soul party, and country/pre-war blues compilations, what I like to refer to as "The Other Genres".

There are some slight changes with the other genres. Up to now only the jazz and soul party compilations had secondary titles, but from today on all the other genres will have secondary titles. Furthermore, I'm moving towards compiling more themed collections. So in addition to the general mixed tracks compilations there will be lots more specialized themes coming.

Kicking off the specialized themes is Assorted Best Of Jazz Volume 41 - A Handful Of Jazz Trumpet Greats. This is actually the 2nd jazz trumpet compilation I've put together. The 1st was lost in last month's computer disaster. Anyway I put together a replacement showcasing Miles Davis, Hot Lips Page, Louis Armstrong, Blue Mitchell, Lee Morgan, Hugh Masekela, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, and several other of the best jazz trumpet players of all time.

Finally, I've been considering for some time now to slow down the postings. A few of you have commented that you don't have time to listen to it all. It's currently at 15 posts a week, so what I'm thinking of doing is instead of making the usual 2 posts each day, I'll post every alternate day. That would reduce the number of posts down from 15 to 7 each week.

As always my friends, dig in, enjoy the music, and don't forget to leave comments letting me know what you're enjoying the most.

  1. I like the idea of themed albums a lot. Also, I do not mind having posts only every other day because I`m only interested in the Jazz and Country albums. Maybe one day you can do Gospel only compilations too. Anyways ... enjoy your spare time and listen to some of our compilations.

    1. Hi Maren, thanks for your comment. Of all the genres I post here, gospel is the one I know least about. Which is why this blog hasn't dealt with much gospel. But I'll look into it and see what I can come up with.

  2. Looking forward to the new collections. I don't find your frequency of postings overwhelming but the choice is yours on how often you post. Thanks, as always for the great music.

  5. Always appreciate your themed comps with a nice mixture of old and new artists. So, looking forward to the new ones and posting every other day is a good idea. Sometimes one can feel swamped by all the music floating around on the various blogs.

    1. Hi Xyros, agreed, posting every other day gives me a bit of a break and frees up time to work on more themed compilations.

  6. Love the comps, but less would be more. Its hard to listen to everything. A plethora of riches to be sure, though.
