DeleteThanks so much, Bob! ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it...many more coming.
DeleteThanks Bob, a few unknowns to me here just the way i like it. Strange to see Danny and the Juniors with At the Hop make it onto this particular Comp? doesn't quite fit, does it? Mike.
ReplyDeleteHi Mike, these compilations were made up a couple of years ago, before I started the blog and before I began compiling other genre compilations like early rock & roll, and soul, and so forth. At the time these compilations were just for my personal listening and were very broad spectrum. With the compilations I'm putting together today I'm more specific, so today a track like At The Hop would go into an early R&R compilation. 😁
DeleteNo problem with me Bob, At the Hop was a song i listened to many times as a young one and still like it today!! Mike.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great song isn't it Mike, I was 11yo when it came out on the radio and I can still remember the good feeling I got hearing it. I still love it today. One thing I'll mention that is a bit of a key to how I compile these Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel compilations is when I interviewed B.B. King back in 1974 I was talking away about Texas blues and Memphis blues and Soul blues and so forth and BB said that was a very white thing, putting various music into different categories and putting labels on it. He said "we just think of it all as black music." That stuck with me and so I got into compiling hodge-podge compilations of blues, R&B, soul, gospel, jazz where the selections were all held together by a bluesy feel rather than regionally or stylistically.
DeleteNever thought of it before but BB was right, thanks for the insight to how you compile these Comps. Mike.
