You may recall some months ago I announced that in the future all compilations will have the recording years given along with the track titles. Well these are starting to appear now. In most cases it's easy for me to provide the recording year as it's included with the album artwork or found in booklets. However, some require a bit of internet searching, which usually yields fast results. Occasionally it gets tricky, particularly so with many Country Music artists who record and re-record the same songs over and over, making it difficult to determine which version I have. So to the best of my ability all years given are accurate. Of course if anyone feels that a particular year is incorrect then by all means let me know and I'll make corrections.
Also it was brought to my attention recently that not all tracks I use are true bitrates, and some are in fact upscaled lower bitrates. I knew this went on but didn't realize how wide spread it is until I started testing everything myself and discovered that there's so much fake flac out there, along with low bitrate (64, 96, 128, 192) that have been upscaled to 320kbps. Anyway, I'm now testing everything prior to including tracks into the compilations I'm currently building. So the good news is in the future all my compilations, whether MP3 320kbps or flac, will be true bitrates. However, due to the backlog of compilations I have waiting, it will take some time for these to appear on the blog.
As for the tracks that are rejected for not being true bitrates. Well, some will just get dumped, but many are rare recordings that only exist in their current low-bitrate form, so I guess as things move along I'll periodically put out special compilations of various-bitrate tracks.
Anyway my friends dig in and enjoy the good music shared here. Don't forget to take a few seconds to let me know what you're enjoying most. Also don't forget to keep looking in Bob's Cellar. The good people in there are sharing lots of great albums, and as always when you download something from Bob's Cellar please say thank you to those good people who generously post things for us all to enjoy.
Thanks for all your time and effort to share these tunes with us!! I for one am not fussy when it comes to bitrate as long as i can hear the music and words unfortunately it's all the same to these old ears and i would like to have a chance to get the ones you put on a various bitrate comp. So Thanks again Bob, i appreciate all that you do. Mike. 👍
ReplyDeleteCheers Mike, always good to hear from you. Yes in the future when I post mixed-bitrate compilations I'll inform at the time. I guess it doesn't matter much with the old historical stuff as people just want to hear those songs regardless of bitrate. I'm currently near the end of compiling an entire batch in flac. But more MP3 will come.
DeleteHi Bob, I too thank your for all of your tunes you have shared. The bit rates are far less important than the music. One thing I might be able to help on is dates. I have been making mix "tapes" for years with the date being the primary factor. For a long time Discogs was terrible with the dates they assigned to songs. I haven't noticed it so much lately, but i used to frequently find songs reviewed in 1965 Billboards that they would say were issued in 1967 for example. Any way there is a lot I don't know, but will help if I can. Also, not so much on Country or Jazz.

Hi tsi&hrjs. Thank for your kind offer. By the time the songs are posted on my blog I have the years already, but if you ever feel a year is incorrect then by all means let me know.
