ReplyDeleteHi Mike, Hi Tide came to Australia in 1974 when he was playing in John Mayall's band. My younger brother, myself and another good friend met the band at Perth airport, they flew in late in the morning and had a concert that evening. Hi Tide told us he'd like to see some things not just hang out in his hotel room, so we took him in our car out to the beach, we got some cold beers from a pub on the way, then sat on the sandhills drinking beer and looking out over the Indian Ocean and listening to Hi Tide telling us some great stories about all the bluesmen he had met. On the way taking Hi Tide back to his hotel in the afternoon we stopped off at our friend's house because his sister was a big John Mayall fan but she would miss the show that night because she was unwell and in bed, so we brought Hi Tide into her bedroom and told her we've got John Mayall's lead guitarist here and he's come to say hello and wish you well. It was a fun day and an outstanding show that night.
