 Bob's Chat

I received notification from Pixeldrain that starting from 26 January 2026 the file expiry will be reduced to 60 days. As many of my compilations are hosted on Pixeldrain, and the links are mostly still active, I suggest all followers of this blog grab whatever you need over the next week as the links will soon expire for many of the older compilations.

I sometimes get asked about renewing expired links. Just before Xmas I was asked to renew links for 3 compilations. When I checked 2 were still active, I made a new link for the other one, and to this day it sits there with zero downloads. So I'm going to have to adopt the approach of other blogs and will not be renewing any expired links unless I know the person asking or they comment regularly on the blog.

Now to the subject of comments/feedback. With very few exceptions all of us who run these free music sharing blogs welcome comments/feedback. We provide you with the free music and you give us some small thanks in return. That's how it's supposed to work. Lately comments here have dropped off to none or just 1 or 2, and if I check the downloads I see figures like 55 or 86 downloads, even up around 100. When I do get comments it's always from the same small group of loyal followers, but the majority are just taking and remaining silent.

So I'm informing you that I'd like to see an increase in comments/feedback, and if there is not then I will take steps to filter out the "lurkers" who just take and never find the time to say thanks. I can password lock the folders, I can go private again. I really do not want to do either as it means more work for me. But take this as a friendly reminder, or the day may come soon when you can no longer access the blog or open the folders.

Here today for your listening pleasure are two new compilations. Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel Records Volume 227 with 21 tracks from 1957 to 2023. As usual an eclectic mix featuring Buddy Rich, Bobby Rush, Dinah Washington, Solomon Burke, Wilson Pickett, and other noted artists.

Country, Pre-War & Acoustic Blues Volume 101 today gives you Gospel Blues Volume 06 - Jesus Turned The Water Into Wine (1927-2024). Lots of rare tracks here from early recorded artists like Lonnie McIntorsh, Charley Patton, and The Utica Institute Jubilee Singers, through to contemporary performers like Sue Foley, Guy Davis, Chris Kramer, and Harold Stewart.

Anyway my friends enjoy today's music and don't forget to take a few seconds to say thanks, or give some feedback, not just to me but to everyone who shares free music on the various internet blogs and sites.

  1. I'm a little slow to comment because I need to listen before posting a comment. I understand how you feel, this is a problem on many blogs, and mine is no exception.

    1. You're fine Patrick you comment often and often give your opinion of various tracks, my comments above are not directed at people like you and the other regulars who frequently comment.

  2. Hi Bob. I only found your site recently. The breadth and depth of your compilations is truly impressive. It's obviously a ton of work - I salute you sir! The lack of commentary from readers stretches across most blogs I'm afraid and of course it's frustrating given the commitment involved. I hope the slackers don't dampen the enthusiasm that led you to start your blog in the first place :)

    1. Hi Berni, nice to hear from you and nice to know you are enjoying the blog. Please keep commenting regularly, remember one of the reasons people create internet blogs is to build up a band of followers who become involved with the blog, so some interaction from followers is required for the blog to be successful and to continue.

  3. Well it seems it's the way of the blogging world now, everyone wanting something for nothing and it only takes half a minute to say thanks!!

I think three months is long enough for someone to take an album you have shared to be honest. That's why I said don't ask for a re up as the answer will be no. But my idea by saying unless you know me or comment on a regular basis then add your email and I will send you a link, I won't be sharing the link on the site and this hopefully gets visitors into the habit of taking the time to comment.

Also I know I would rather spend my time sharing new albums rather than the time re posting links. I had a similar experience to Bob, someone asked for a re up of something, I didn't share, but the original was in no position to re up the album and I took the time and even shared in 320 instead of 256 that it was originally shared in, sorted the tags, uploaded and shared the link for who asked for it, not to come back and collect it. So I deleted the comment asking for it and my reply with the link.

Have toyed with passwords and more trouble than it's worth and time spent. I have just grown a few extra layers of skin, with comments and expecting them, if they come they come, I can't change or make people post them, so no point worrying about it is my position now. Just post what a want, trying to make it as diverse as possible, if a comment comes then great, if not so be it. Even some bloggers I know don't post a comment on others blogs. The ones that do seem to comment are from an older generation!!

For me blogging is about sharing the music you like, love, whatever, I share what I want, some people want them others not, that's fair enough, music is very personal, my likes might not be yours. But if it's something I don't know I like to take a listen and decide for my self. It's all about discovering new music either new from 2026 or new older music from whatever decade.

I made the decision a few months ago to stop sharing Flac, Wav files and stick to good honest real 320 files, yeah some visitors, would rather I share in Flac, but sharing quality files in flac or wav doesn't guarantee a thank you or a comment in return. But don't this has altered the number of comments we are receiving to be honest.

    1. Hi Reb, always good to hear from you. Yes, the comments come and then they go, about once a year I need to rattle the cage to stimulate some response. If I post a compilation and a week later it's had 80+ d/l but not one comment, then it bothers me. I don't expect 80+ comments, but do expect a few. But when there's zero or just 1 comment, I don't feel motivated to make another post. But there's a hive of activity going on now, so my recent cage rattle worked :)

    1. Hi jf, as I explained above to Berni, one of the reasons people make these blogs is to build up a band of followers and form internet friendships, so please stay in touch on a regular basis.

    1. Hi Stan, this is a specialist music blog which deals primarily with rare and historical blues, R&B, jazz, soul, hillbilly & country recordings, so the album you request is right out of the scope of this blog. You could ask in one of the blogs that presents pop and middle of the road music.

  8. Hi Bob,

Thanks for the info about Pixeldrain. I'll have to trawl through the blog to see what I might have missed. I suspect there are quite a few as I haven't been able to get on line as much as I would like because of other commitments recently. Do keep up the sterling work in posting though as you are becoming one of the 'legends' of downloading. There are not many music bloggers I can think of who have put together as many compilations as you have so far. Any idea how many you've posted in total since you started the blog?

    All the best. Cheers

    Manny

    1. Hi Manny, good question, I do put everything into an "Already Posted" folder immediately after making a post. So the easiest way for me would be to just check that folder, however, it's with my backups at home and I'm currently away for 4 nights. As soon as I get back I'll check and will have the exact number. Thanks for your comment, always good to hear from you,

  9. Thanks Bob for all you (and your fellow) bloggers do. We should all remember to give thanks; without your efforts, and what we enjoy as a result, life would be much poorer

  10. Hi Bob, I can only say that you have my full support and I'll continue to be grateful for everything I download. I was raised this way and I can't, and don't want to, change it. Cheers
