Volume 101 may be my FAVORITE Volume! I LUV Southern Gospel and even though I already have most of these songs in my computer, can't wait to hear 'em in an organized collection. Thank you Bob for a GREAT POST today!
ReplyDeleteVolume 92 (I didn't have a label calling it Gospel Volume 1), but I'm assuming Vol. 92 was the FIRST Country Gospel. Now I can play 'em back-to-back.
ReplyDeleteHi moze, glad to hear you enjoy this series. Correct, Vol 92 was the first Country Gospel but it wasn't called Vol 1. At the time I just made up one Country Gospel compilation but later on decided to make a second, which we have posted today. I haven't yet made a Vol 3 but certainly will do so at some later date. There are a couple of odd tracks in Vol 2, both Kasey Chambers & Tuba Skinny are a departure from the usual artists I feature but they fit in well I believe and add some nice variety.
DeleteThank you for Vol.101 Bob, a great series indeed.

DeleteThank you, Bob what a surprise! I love old country, but for Gospel, the blacks (African American people) are, in my opinion, superior. They are the inventors of this music, starting from protestant (and white people) religious psalms.
ReplyDeleteHi Monsieur Jujube, interesting comment. When it comes to blues, R&B, soul I definitely prefer the black artists. With gospel however, I must confess I find much of the black gospel just too raucous for my tastes. With gospel I far prefer listening to the white country & hillbilly artists.
Delete"Gospel music, spiritual music or evangelical music, in its most restrictive definition is American religious music that emerged from the hundreds of African-American Pentecostal, evangelical Protestant churches in the 19th century and which became very popular during the 1930s. More Generally, religious music composed and sung by Southern Christian singers, regardless of their ethnicity, is also included."
Delete"Gospel music is a traditional genre of Christian music, and a cornerstone of Christian media. The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes. Including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Gospel music is characterized by dominant vocals and strong use of harmony with Christian lyrics. Gospel music can be traced to the early 17th century."

these examples of "white" or country/hillbilly gospel are indeed excellent, no doubt!
DeleteBut some of the great black voices of gospel, like Clarence Fountain, give me the same chills as that of James Carr.
The frenzy and hypnotic rhythm of certain gospel groups have no real equal in country music, to my knowledge!

But in fact Mich comes from Michel and 58 from my year of birth.

And if you click on Mich58, you will have access to my profile, various downloads of my favorites and links to the blogs with which I collaborate.
