Originally released in 1960 as "Blues After Hours" by Elmore James & The Broom Dusters (Crown Records CLP 5168), this LP contains 10 tracks recorded between 1953-1955, with supporting musicians such as Maxwell Davis, Little Johnny Jones, J.T. Brown, Ransom Knowling, Earl Palmer, Boyd Atkins, Willard McDaniel & Odie Payne. It was the first Elmore James LP I ever owned, though my copy was the United Superior edition, released in 1963 and retitled "The Blues In My Heart, The Rhythm In My Soul".

They say that when the Rolling Stone Brian Jones first heard Elmore James it was as if the world tilted on its axis, and Brian was never the same again. I understand fully the effect hearing Elmore for the first time had on Brian because my own experience was very similar. I came home with this LP, put it on my turntable and stood there stunned as Elmore launched into "Dust My Blues". I listened to side one, flipped it over, then back again. I think I listened to the entire album at least 2 or 3 times that evening. It instantly became a top favorite blues LP and I remember bringing it with me to my friends' homes telling them they just had to hear it.

But all that was back in the late 1960s. Of course today everything Elmore ever recorded has been issued, and re-issued, and issued again. Nonetheless "The Blues In My Heart, The Rhythm In My Soul" remains my favorite Elmore James album, one of my most favorite blues LPs, and is most definitely an album that deserves another listen.

Today's "Assorted Best Of Jazz" sees the start of a new category "Women In Jazz Vol 01 - Midnight Raven". There have been a couple of all female jazz compilations posted already but they focused entirely on female jazz singers. The "Women In Jazz" series however, presents female musicians, who are relatively few in number compared to the plethora of male jazz musicians.

And commencing today is a new series "The Very Best Of Rhythm And Blues, Raw Blues And Soul Music". Volume 1 brings you 20 great rocking tracks from Albert King, B.B. King, T-Bone Walker, Irma Thomas, Bill Dogett, Jackie Wilson, The Isley Brothers, and many more Blues & R&B greats.

And also starting today is a new feature of the blog called "Bob's Basement". You'll find the link at the top right hand side. Like the basements & the fill & make requests pages on many blogs, it's a forum for all of you to participate if you so wish. Do any of you have any wants or requests? Then this is the place. And when anyone requests something then anyone can feel free to post a link and fill that request. If anyone has anything they want to share, then go for it, post it here in Bob's Basement. All musical genres are welcome. Today's "Assorted Recordings - Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel Volume 100" is the final volume in that particular series. 

Commencing soon is a new series titled "The Very Best Of Rhythm And Blues, Raw Blues And Soul Music", and there are 35 volumes in that series. When that finishes I have the next series waiting, titled "Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel Records", there are already 318 volumes made up and waiting, and I'm continually making new volumes as I go along. There won't be any further name changes once this series starts. It will remain as "Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel Records" for as long as this blog continues.

Also I will be halting the "Soul Party" series for a while as I want to get another series out titled "R&B SOUL", which is, as the title suggests, a very similar mix of black R&B and Soul music. These contain some well-known classics alongside lesser-known tracks, and even a few rare recordings, so hopefully something for everyone. There are 15 volumes in "R&B SOUL" and after it's finished I'll continue with the next batch in the "Soul Party" series.

The very popular "Assorted Hillbilly & Country Recordings" & "Rockabilly & Early Rock & Roll Recordings" will continue unchanged, as will the Jazz and "The Best Of Country, Pre-War & Acoustic Blues" series. I have 15 volumes in each series already made up in advance, and I'm preparing new volumes all the time.
