ReplyDeleteCheers Michel.
DeleteThanks, Bob; Another great compil! Mainly with artists from the 60-70' and with some very good gospel singers!
ReplyDeletei always loved the version of spoonful by etta James!
Hi Monsieur Jujube, glad you enjoyed that compilation.
DeleteVery nice collection Bob, Thanks. Mike.
ReplyDeleteCheers Mike.
Deletethanks Bob. Apparently "Red Hot" was Billy The Kid Emersons most successful single. I'm interested to hear it as I missed it. I didn't mis The Whip Pts 1 & 2 which I enjoyed back in the day and still do. There was a release by The Bear family, a 33 track compilation album of Emerson's Sun recordings, "Red Hot: The Sun Years, Plus" which I hope to stumble across. He was yet another soul man who started in the church and in later years went back to it. In 2005 he was reported as having a church in Oak Park, Illinois, as Rev. William R. Emerson. No info after that on the web but given that he was born in 1925 perhaps he's playing somewhere else. Do you know any more?
ReplyDeleteAlbert, Billy Emerson is still alive, now age 97, so I think it's highly unlikely he's still performing. I do have the Bear Family Red Hot: The Sun Years, Plus.
DeleteThanks for sharing this great review of some great gospel tunes
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome mate.
DeleteRather surprised to see Ricky Nelson in the mix! No complaints from me though. I am trying to go back through your blog, Bob,
ReplyDeletebut so much appeals to me! I did thank you & "Little" on one back download but have no idea which one! So I don't know if either of you responded. Not that I wanted a response. Thanks again for your incredible work-load running this fantastic site. You've sure been around the "Music world " in your time. "We" are all benefiting. Cheers. Trev.
Hi Trevor, yes Ricky Nelson, singing a great old blues classic 'Milk Cow Blues'. In these blues/R&B/soul compilations the majority of artists featured are black but the odd white performer gets in here and there. Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself here...dig in to your heart's content.
