Already up to Volume 44 in the Assorted Hillbilly & Country Recordings series. Starting off with 'The Wild Guitar' a 1950 Coral recording by Texas Jim Lewis & His Lone Star Cowboys, and followed by Country Music greats Loretta Lynn, Porter Wagoner, Charline Arthur, Tammy Wynette, Rusty & Doug (Kershaw) and many other fine artists.

Volume 83 in the Best Of Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel serves up a further 21 tracks recorded between 1954 and 1994. Kicking things off is the white gospel preacher Brother Claude Ely, along with Alberta Powell, Marcia Ball, Hank Ballard & The Midnighters, James Brown, Ester Phillips, Dinah Washington, Ricky Nelson, The Dixie Jubilees, Ray Charles, and other fine R&B/soul singers.

And today's photo is Jim Morrison on stage somewhere. I always thought Morrison was one of the best white blues singers of his time. To my ears so many of the white blues singers sounded a bit false, like they were straining to sound black, or they were just too middle class and comfortable to be singing about most blues subjects. But when Jim stood up there on stage, drunk and sweaty and roaring about back doors and crawling kingsnakes and eating more chicken, he sounded damn convincing to me.
