Screamin' Jay doing "A Hard Day's Night"! Pretty wild!
ReplyDeleteHe was certainly a unique artist Mike. His first recordings were in the R&B shouter style, but Jay was really only an average R&B singer at a time when outstanding R&B singers were thick on the ground, so Jay was smart enough to know he needed something to set him apart from the pack, then he came up with all the skulls & mumbo jumbo stuff, and it worked. Kudos to him for figuring out a way to get ahead of the pack.
DeleteI don't know how his voice could have survived a single set, much less a career of that style.
DeleteWhat a fine selection. Esp. The Beatles covers.
