ReplyDeleteGlad you're enjoying them Michel.
DeleteThanks Bob. I've always thought that Gary US Bonds was worthy of inclusion in more than one category of music. Great mix.
ReplyDeleteThanks Albert. It was interesting Gary cropped up in the Blues Brothers 2 movie, as a member of the Louisiana Gator Boys. BTW: Kim Tolliver - In Return For Your Love, one of the greatest soul tracks of all time, so powerful, Kim's soaring vocals and those sad saxes. Love that track.
DeleteListening to "Kim Tolliver - In Return For Your Love". Totally agree. She sounds a bit like I would have preferred Lorraine Ellison to sound like. Unfortunately I couldn't cope with Lorraine's screeching. When she wasn't going over the top her voice was excellent. Another point, how important is the arrangement! This Kim track has excellent arrangement. Folk like OV, James, Garnett and more (think Sonny Warner and Bell Bottom Blue Jeans, Jimmy Lewis and Girls From Texas, Leon Haywood and Mellow Moonlight and fortunately many more who unfortunately didn't get a lot of recognition) linked up with talented arrangers and made records that really delivered. Give it up for the arrangers!
DeleteInteresting comment Albert. Next week I'll be making some changes here. Starting with requests and compilations specifically for blog members, and more discussion.
