Volume 7 in the Best Of Country Blues kicks off with Muddy Waters' classic 1950 Rollin' & Tumblin', followed by Robert Johnson, Memphis Minnie & Kansas Joe, Sleepy John Estes, Blind Willie McTell, Henry Thomas, Bukka White, and many other early blues greats. I should point out here that I use the term 'Country Blues' in a very generic way with this series. Blues scholars would no doubt quickly jump all over me pointing out that Tampa Red, Big Maceo, Lonnie Johnson, and Rev. Gary Davis were not true country blues performers. So as I say, I use the term 'Country Blues' in a generic way to cover pre-war, acoustic, old country-style blues, as opposed to the modern, post-war amplified blues bands that appear in my blues/R&B collections.
And continuing along with the Hillbilly & Country Recordings, now at volume 32, we have Flatt & Scruggs, Patsy Montana, Spade Cooley & His Orchestra, The Monroe Brothers, The Carter Family, Little Jimmy Dickens, Molly O'Day, Gene Autry and many others, including Rosalie Allen with her delightful 1949 recording 'Yodelin' Boogie'.
