  2. Henry Thomas - Fishing Blues, mesmerised by the fluty/fify thing he plays. So was Canned Heat so I'm in good company. Excellent comp Bob. Keeping my dream alive that one day, when I grow up, I'll play guitar. Aaaaah the doomed Pat Hare. Some of the backstories of these folk are incredible and so was their music.

    1. Yes fluffyalbert, Canned Heat picked that up, pan pipes I believe. I remember back in the 1970s some blues aficionados were attempting to get Pat Hare an early release, claiming he was a national treasure, but no go. I suppose shooting a cop sealed his fate. He did continue playing in the prison band, I'm not sure if any recordings exist, possible they do.

    3. I read that the band Pat Hare formed in prison was named "Sounds Incarcerated". Pity no one recorded it. That's a missed opportunity. Passed its cell by date now.

    4. I've just been reading up a bit on Pat Hare's final years, Albert. He was allowed out of prison (accompanied by a guard) to play with Muddy's band on one occasion. Also "Sounds Incarcerated" were filmed performing for a local PBS program called "Wyld Rice" So I guess some recordings do exist, somewhere.

    5. Albert: also that photo of Pat Hare playing in a club that I posted is just a small crop from a much larger photo of the Muddy Waters band playing in a Chicago club in 1959.

    7. Great stuff thanks Albert, wow he was playing sweet right up to the very end, he was a violent man in his earlier times and that was reflected in his very aggressive playing style, but watching these later clips one can see and hear how he had mellowed out. Such a shame nobody managed to get an album recorded before he died.
