Volume 63 in the Best Of Blues, R&B, Soul & Gospel serves up some mighty fine tracks dating from 1941 to 1968. There's blues/R&B from Smiley Lewis, Tampa Red, Ray Charles, Walter Brown, Bobby Guitar Bennett, Linda Hopkins and others, along with some outstanding gospel from Black Nativity, The Ward Singers, and The Gospel Solotones.
Soul Party Volume 07 'Walking The Dog' give us some of the greatest soul artists of all time: Rufus Thomas, Archie Bell & The Drells, The Isley Brothers, Wilson Pickett, Solomon Burke, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Sly & The Family Stone, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and much more.
Today's photo is a very rare shot of Delta bluesman Son House, taken in 1929 with a lady friend. Son House was born in 1902, so he was 27 at the time of this photo been taken.
Finally, my story about seeing British bluesman Andre De Moller performing in Perth dancehalls in the early 1960s aroused some interest in the man. Andre currently lives in the UK, he's a barrister in London and still has a blues band and performs from time to time at various festivals. While he was in Australia in the early 1960s he recorded one single record, a 45. One side was Sonny Boy Williamson's 'Help Me', the other side Doc Watson's 'Walk On Boy'. I must have seen Andre perform these 2 songs live dozens of times. Anyway, both sides of the 45 are on YouTube so go ahead and have a listen (links below). I'll just add here that on the record both songs sound a bit thin and light, when I saw Andre doing these songs live in clubs the sound was so much fuller, louder and raw.
