  1. Thank you Bob for two more fine sets.

Is Big Mama Thornton taking cough syrup or having a belt?

    1. She's definitely having a belt, that's a bottle of Old Grand Dad she swigging on. Here's a bit about her drinking: "By the 1970s, years of heavy drinking began to damage Big Mama Thornton's health. She was found dead at age 57 in a Los Angeles boarding house on July 25, 1984. She died of heart and liver disorders due to her longstanding alcohol abuse. She had lost 355 pounds (161 kg) in a short time as a result of illness, her weight dropping from 450 to 95 pounds (204–43 kg)."

  3. Before i seen her name i thought that it was a picture of a man!!!
I did not know about her problem with alcohol, what a waste. It's funny and sad to say that she looked more healthy when she was heavy. Mike.

    1. Yes so true Mike, when she was heavy, very heavy, she was also quite a beautiful woman. Such a great R&B singer, damn good harp player too.
